Gleanings from Our Meetings

January 18

  • We share the Spirit of Christ and are in unity with each other.
  • We need to be what we should be so we can do what we need to do.

October 23

  • We should be willing to share in the suffering of Christ.
  • We know the life of joy in spite of the things we endure.

October 12

November 9

  • God is not an ATM (Jim H.)
  • Churches are not the place to grow — you have to be in the Word (Mike)
  • We don't find God; He finds us.
  • God brings good things out of bad things (Phil. 1-12f)
  • People who preach with bad motives can preach good.
Perhaps the Spirit of God can accomplish good things through people who are doing evil. E.g., JWs led Jim back to the Bible.
  • (vs.16).

April 19

  • We're called upon to pray for the success of the church, not to criticize, e.g., the music.
  • We should be like Epaphroditus — in being a brother, worker, soldier, and messenger.

May 3

  • Ben's self-test.
    1. 1:9 — Is our love growing — loving more people and loving people deeper?
    2. 1:15-18 — Are we presenting the gospel — putting the Word out there or keeping it to ourself?
    3. 1:27 — Are we conducting ourselves according to the Bible?
    4. 1:29-30 — Are we enduring for Christ? Or taking it easy?
    5. 2:3 — Are we being self-less? Not being vein?
    6. 2:8 — Are we being humble?
    7. 2:12 — Are we being obedient?
    8. 2:14 — Do we avoid arguing and disputing?
    9. 2:19-21 — Are we looking out for the interests of Jesus?
Looking for what God wants us to do?
  • Passing the test for each of these will cause us to rejoice, as the Philippians were rejoicing.
